February 24, 2013 | Kenji | 1 Comment Some of you will remember 2008 when Clark experienced his first battle with cancer. He had been in remission for several years, but recently cancer has returned and is now in stage 4. Climbing in Southern California for over 35 years, Clark has many first ascents at Taquitz, Suicide and Joshua Tree. His most valuable contribution to our community has been his decades of guiding climbers and honoring and passing on local climbing ethics that have kept these areas safe and available to all. Generously mentoring young climbers, offering beta to visitors, rescuing many injured or stranded climbers at great risk…. Clark Jacobs sets an example we can all aspire to. Medical insurance is covering most of Clark’s current treatments, but he is unable to work now and needs our help with his daily needs for food, trips to the hospital etc. Please click on the link to send a credit card donation through The Friends of Joshua Tree. You may also mail a check directly to Clark at the following address: Clark Jacobs PO Box 1653, Idyllwild CA 92549 Please, let’s show Clark that our community cares. also share up to your network in social media, gyms, and even (gasp!) in person or snail mail! Clark has given so much to us, let’s return the favor. Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterPinterest
Does anyone have a current report from Clark? I found this page about an hour ago and I’m still a little shell shocked. I met Clark in 1996 in Joshua Tree of course. He was climbing with some friends and I was alone a few months into a year long climbing road trip i was taking before i did what ever i was gonna do after high school. We all got kicked out of the park (monument at the time) one morning because Clinton closed down the government. We all ended up down south outside of Chiraco Summit trying to find some rare off the beaten path routes and before I could even start to think about where I might go next Clark offered to put me up at his house in Idyllwild until the park reopened. So for a week I shared Clark’s living room with Dave Mayville. It was Awesome! We went climbing everyday at Suicide or Tac. Then when the park reopened we all went back together. This was almost 20 years ago and I have never since witnessed such an act of kindness. From some of the testimony Ive read this was way he was with everyone and i don’t doubt it for a second. Clark is the most genuine person you could ever meet. He just makes everything better. It breaks my heart to read about the battle he’s faced since 08′. Its been many years since I’ve been in contact with him but in the last week or so he has been in my thoughts a lot. Since i’m not on facebook or anything I thought i could just google and find something out about the “Little Brown Man”. I’m mostly sad for what I found but I’m so happy to hear that the local community of J-tree is coming together to help protect its Godfather -Frank from Estes Park Colorado
