December 22, 2024 | Lori Rennie Breaking News…Congress Passed the EXPLORE Act On December 18, 2024 federal agencies announced that they were withdrawing proposed climbing management policy that redefines fixed anchors in wilderness as ‘prohibited installations’. On December 19, Congress passed the EXPLORE Act, which includes significant support for outdoor recreation areas and access for all across all activities. It included the PARC Act, ‘Protect America’s Rock Climbing’, which expressly allows fixed anchors in designated wilderness, with regulatory oversight and permitting as currently exists. Here’s more on the PARC Act: www.accessfund.org. Additionally, this is a good write up of the full EXPLORE Act: www.peopleforbikes.org/news/explore-act-passes-senate. FOJT has actively engaged in these climbing management efforts over many years and applaud this new law clarifying fixed anchor policy and prioritizing recreation on our public lands.
