Summer is the time where Friends Of Joshua Tree gets out into the broader SoCal community to spread awareness, education and stewardship mindedness. Not everyone knows about JOSAR, or HARP (the fixed anchor replacement program), the Climber Stewards Program, or even Climbers’ Coffee. So it’s important to reach out beyond the borders of Joshua Tree to talk to folks in the big cities about responsibly recreating in the high desert.

One of our recent display opportunities was at the REI Grant Celebration and Member Jam at Debs Park near Downtown Los Angeles. We mingled with other recipient organizations like Friends Of the LA River (FOLAR), Santa Monica Mountains Fund, Brown Girls Trekking, Catalina Island Conservancy and others whom put their heart and soul into stewarding our public lands.

Next up we were invited to table at Sender One LAX for the adidas Rockstars competition, which was quite a hoot with speed and bouldering competition in full swing. FOJT did not field a competitor, just to be fair to the young and inexperienced crowd :-}

Lastly, this past weekend was a fee free weekend in the Park (103rd Birthday of the National Park Service!), and many people supported FOJT and JOSAR as they came to bear witness to the magic that is JTree. Thanks for your support, for spreading the word, and for encouraging Responsible Recreation!
