Let’s Not Be Bystanders!

JTNP grafitti cleanupFriends of Joshua Tree is saddened by the recent tagging activity in Joshua Tree National Park. We are asking all climbers and our community members to report activities in the Park that destroy or desecrate natural objects or signs that facilitate safe and informed visitation. The recent paintball vandalism committed in the Park was luckily observed by a Park Ranger and followed to conclusion… as those who love the Park and recreate often there, we can sometimes observe behavior that isn’t legal and that harms the environment. Let’s not be bystanders; if you see something, say something.

According to the Park’s Acting Chief Ranger, Jeff Filosa, “Defacing or altering the NPS landscape, no matter how small, is against the law. It diminishes the natural environment that millions of people travel the world to enjoy. The park is regularly tasked with removing graffiti of all types, using time and resources that could be better dedicated to other priorities.”
